Wednesday Writer's Wisdom/ Do You Need A Galley!

First what is a Galley?  Galleys, or advanced reader copies (ARCs). Those printed versions of your book that you will give away for free. A galley is essentially a product sample. So why do you need one?
This is a must for any Indie Author or publisher looking to get attention.  These free versions are given to anyone willing to promote you in one way or another either  through reviewers, blogs, distributors, retail buyers, and other industry contacts. Read this blog for more information on how to get your book reviewed.
Your Galley doesn't have to be perfect. The people that will read them probably have received them before. They understand that  this is a work-in-progress. So don't worry, it doesn't need to be finalized they will judge it accordingly.
Bewared though, you still want to make the best impression. There are some things they will take into consideration when looking at your Galley. To be on the safe side read the before mentioned blog for more details.
And finally find somewhere that will print your Galley cheaply.  As Indie authors and publishers  we don't have a whole lot of money to throw around. So putting a lot of money out for this printed work doesn't make sense. Take your time to shop around to find the cheapest, most inexpensive printing company. Google is a great place to start.

  2. Good tips! We could also send PDFs if we're releasing ebooks. I'll be sure to prepare advanced reading copies for my upcoming middle-grade e-novel and hopefully get a few reviews before the ebook is released.
