The deck was worn, the planks falling apart but his booths
remain. The town folk thought Mrs. Merman was crazy staying out there waiting
for a man that wouldn’t return.
Eight years ago, according
to police, Mr. Merman pulled off his boots and took his daily swim. He was
never seen again.
She was arrested and tried but found innocent of any wrong
doing. Many still thought she did something to him. Mrs. Merman contended he went to visit
family.
On the anniversary of
his disappearance, Mr. Merman walked into town with Mrs. Merman on his arm to
everyone’s bewilderment.
